This tour begins at Serra do Pilar, on the opposite side of the Douro River, where we can enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Porto and the famous Ponte Dom Luís I. The sight of the old city with its narrow streets is unforgettable, and the bridge, one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century, elegantly connects the two banks of the Douro with its iconic structure.
We cross Ponte Dom Luís I, walking along the iron bridge that offers spectacular views of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Designed by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, this bridge is a true symbol of Porto.
Next, we arrive at the heart of the city, beginning with Sé do Porto, the medieval cathedral dating back to the 12th century. The cathedral boasts impressive architecture and stunning views over the historic city center and the Douro River.
Our next stop is the Igreja de Santo Ildefonso, a beautiful Baroque church famous for its blue-tiled façade depicting religious scenes. This is one of the most iconic examples of Portuguese azulejos, a true cultural treasure of Portugal.
We then head to the Capela das Almas, a striking chapel adorned with azulejos illustrating the lives of saints and religious scenes. Its façade is one of the most iconic examples of azulejos in all of Porto.
From there, we walk to the Mercado do Bolhão, a traditional market where we can immerse ourselves in the lively atmosphere, with colorful stalls selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to artisan products and fish. It’s the perfect place to experience local life.
A short walk away, we visit Gare de São Bento, a historic train station famous for its azulejos that cover the walls and depict important episodes from Portuguese history. It’s a must-stop to admire 20th-century art and architecture.
Our next stop is Torre dos Clérigos, one of the tallest towers in the city, where we can enjoy a 360-degree view of Porto. The climb to the top offers a unique experience with one of the best panoramic views of the city.
We then visit Livraria Lello, considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, famous for its art nouveau architecture and the monumental staircase that makes it a magical place. It’s a must-see for book lovers!
The tour continues with a visit to Palácio da Bolsa, a neoclassical building that houses the Porto Commercial Association, known for its grandeur and rich decoration. The Arab Room is one of the most impressive areas, with its decoration inspired by Eastern traditions.
Finally, we conclude the tour at Cais da Ribeira, one of Porto’s most iconic neighborhoods. With its narrow, colorful streets along the Douro River, this neighborhood is the perfect place to relax, take in the river views, and enjoy a craft beer or a glass of Port wine.
