Tour Description
This walking tour begins at Praça Marquês de Pombal, a landmark of Lisbon’s reconstruction after the great earthquake. We descend along the charming Avenida da Liberdade, lined with gardens, fountains, and elegant shops, until we reach Restauradores, where the city comes to life with eclectic architecture.
Next, we head to the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, where we can catch a glimpse of São Jorge Castle. We visit the Church of São Roque, known for its interiors rich in details, and then explore the bohemian Chiado neighborhood, full of historic cafes and bookstores.
We descend via the famous Santa Justa Elevator to Rua Augusta, the vibrant heart of Lisbon, leading us directly to the majestic Praça do Comércio, with its expansive view of the Tagus River. From here, we walk to the lively Cais do Sodré, where tradition meets modernity in bustling bars and markets.
We then take public transport along the river to Belém, with strategic stops. First, we visit the Presidential Palace, the official residence of the President of Portugal. Next, we explore the impressive MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology), with its modern architecture by the Tagus River.
We continue to the Jerónimos Monastery, a gem of Manueline architecture, and then arrive at the iconic Belém Tower, an ancient fortress and symbol of the Age of Discoveries. We conclude our tour at the monumental Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a tribute to the navigators who launched Portugal to the world.
